All About Poets and Potters: Pottery Wheel Demonstration by Pied Potter Rick Hamelin
Wednesday, April 56:30—7:30 PMWallace Community RoomLunenburg Public Library1023 Massachusets Ave., Lunenburg, MA, 01462
To commemorate Poetry Month this April, we are looking at poetry and pottery in this demonstration program by Master Potter Rick Hamelin.
Writers have alluded to clay and the potter at work in numerous poems and stories throughout time. Massachusetts’ poets Longfellow, Whitman, Thoreau and Gibran celebrated the potter in their writings and reflected on the forming of clay as a metaphor for life in various ways. In this one hour program, Rick demonstrates “throwing” at the pottery wheel while exploring poet verses and the historical connections of Massachusetts potters to them. Open to ages 12 + !
Pied Potter Rick Hamelin has been potting since 1976 and became committed to learning about the historical Redware potters after learning of the Colonial and Early American industries that existed in his native Central Massachusetts. He has taught and worked in museums and currently lectures and demonstrates pottery throughout New England. Visit his website http://www.piedpotter.com/index.html to learn more about the artist and his other programs.
This program is sponsored by the LeTarte Poetry Fund from the Friends of the Lunenburg Public Library.
