Library Talk on Edward Gorey / Mr. Sinister Cozy
Wednesday, October 236:00—7:00 PMWallace Community RoomLunenburg Public Library1023 Massachusets Ave., Lunenburg, MA, 01462
Gregory Hischak, Director & Curator of the Edward Gorey House in Yarmouth Port, is bringing the artwork of Edward Gorey to Lunenburg!
Join us for a presentation of Gorey’s work as a book artist, illustrator, and designer — works frequently categorized as Whimsically Macabre, though Edward preferred the term Sinister Cozy. Producing books, illustrations, prints, and theatre for almost half a century Edward is consistently mistaken for an artist a hundred years older than he was—yet his works, 24 years since his death, still manage to be 30 years ahead of us.
Gregory Hischak is a writer, performer, and designer who has created exhibits at the Edward Gorey House since 2014 and is the author of E is for Edward A Centennial Celebration of the Mischievous Mind of Edward Gorey due out on Blackdog & Leventhal Spring 2024. He has been the House’s Director since 2020. He has now been collaborating with Edward for ten years. Edward is the perfect boss: open to endless interpretation and not prone to disagreement—as he is dead.
